Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #488
Alright, let’s talk language settings today. As you know, in the United States, Alexa has quite a few more features than we have here in Canada, but I was playing around with some of my settings and I wanted to just make you aware of this.
This is certainly not the same as having your device set up on the United States account with a United States address, but it does give you a little bit of a glimpse into the types of things that Alexa can say if you are on the US account.
But there’s a very simple way of doing this. What you do is you simply go into your Alexa app on your mobile phone and you click on settings. You go into the menu icon, you click on settings, and then you’re going to see device settings.
You click on device settings and now you choose the particular device that you want to change the language settings on. So I have one called downstairs. So let’s say I click on downstairs, and I scroll down, and I find that it says language, and there I click on language.
And right now it’s selected for English and in brackets says Canada, but I can change that to English and in brackets United States. It gives me a little warning and it says it’s selected language does not match your Amazon account and is not fully supported in this country.
If you make this change, some Alexa capabilities, skills, music and content may be unavailable.
If you make this change, some Alexa capabilities, skills, music and content may be unavailable. So, that’s the warning. You won’t get the full features that the United States… that our United States counterparts get.
But, you can then talk to Alexa and you’ll get different responses as if you were in the states. So, if you ask Alexa to sing a song on the Canadian language, you’ll get certain songs.
If you asked Alexa to sing a song on the US language, you’ll get completely different songs. So it’s very, very interesting. So I played around with that, and I thought you might want to try it.
It’s actually kind of fun and then when you’re done, of course, you can switch it back to the English language for Canada.
And remember, if you ever need help actually choosing a device, you just go to the website AlexainCanada.ca, you put in your email address in the field in the middle of the screen, or the bottom of the screen, and you’ll have access to an immediately downloadable free guide to all the different Echo devices that are available in Canada, and it will tell you which one would be best for you.
Alright, have a great day. Talk to you tomorrow.
