10 Years Since the Launch of Consumer Voice Tech

Hey, hey. Teri here. Question for you. When you think about the very first consumer voice assistant, what do you think about?

For me, my first experience was Siri and did you know that actually as of yesterday (I’m one day late with this flash briefing), but as of yesterday, Siri turned 10.

And I know this is not directly related to Alexa. But it is because Siri is what really kicked off our ability to speak with technology in a way that has become so commonplace.

Now since that time, obviously, Amazon has built on what Siri has done, and has taken things to a whole nother level.

And Siri, as far as I’m concerned, is really playing catch up.

But it’s just interesting to just take a moment and realize that it’s already been a decade now that we have been speaking with computers.

And, it’s only in the last couple of years that we’ve really seen the acceleration of this technology.

And of course, that’s largely in part due to what Amazon is doing and Google as well with their Google Assistant.

So, I just wanted to acknowledge that today. I think it’s a big milestone in the voice technology world. And, I wanted to share that with you.

I do think that Alexa is way, way further ahead than where Siri could have been. That’s another discussion for another day.

But nevertheless, I’m excited about voice technology. I’m excited about the future with it. I hope you are too. And, just take a moment to think about that.

10 years now that we’re talking to computers. Where will we be 10 years from now? I wonder, huh. Think about that. Alright.
