Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #1423

Hey, hey. Teri here. Hope you’re doing well. I want to tell you about a new trigger when it comes to routines.

Now, you may be aware of this, but already, Alexa has the ability to listen for certain sounds. That can be the trigger for certain actions.

And that’s all part of setting up a routine. So, for example, in the past, we know that Alexa can be set to listen for a dog barking, or for snoring, or for a baby crying.

And that can trigger to turn on lights, or to play music, or whatever you want.

Well, I was just looking at the sound detection triggers, and there are some new ones available. In fact, there are six of them now.

So I’ll just run through the list. One of them is “Beeping appliance”. So this detects a beeping appliance during a specified time period.

And then you can have that trigger for example, sending you a message, or that sort of thing. Or announcing something.

Trigger Options You Can Use to Set Up Alexa Routines

Or starting a skill. Whatever you can do with a routine, you can set that routine to happen based on Alexa hearing a beeping appliance.

There’s also “Baby crying” as I mentioned, there’s snoring, there’s dog barking, there’s a cough, and there’s also water sounds.

So if you hear water running, or more specifically, if Alexa here’s what “Water running”, then you can set up the routine that Alexa sends you a message, or turns on a light, or whatever you want to happen.

So I think this is pretty cool. It’s just bringing the whole AI algorithm to another level. So check it out.

You just set that up by going into your Alexa app, clicking on “More”, clicking on “Routines”, adding a new routine and when it comes to choosing a trigger, choose the sound detection options.

Alright? Hope that’s useful to you. And as always, hope you’re having a great day. Talk to you tomorrow.
