Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #1393
Hello, hello. Happy Sunday. Teri here. As usual, let’s answer a question from the community today. This one comes from Barry Smith in the Facebook group.
If you’re not part of our group, please feel free to join you just go to VoiceinCanada.ca/Community.
The question is, “When I set an alarm for say 30 minutes on Alexa, why is it that after 10 minutes Alexa cannot tell me how long till the next alarm?
Her reply is there is no alarm set.” So, it’s a little bit of a semantics issue here I think, Barry.
We have a couple of people that gave some responses in the community. Kathy said, “It may work better if you say timer instead of alarm.”
Janet also says, “You have to say timer for 30 minutes, and then she’ll be able to tell you how much time there’s left on your timer.”
Alarm versus timer, they may be handled differently by Alexa
So, that seems to be the consensus here, Barry, and I hope that’s helpful to you. It’s subtle, I know. But alarm versus timer may be handled differently by Alexa.
So again, alarm obviously is when you set it for a certain time. A timer is when you set it for a certain time interval and then the sound will chime. So, try that.
Try using the word timer instead of alarm and see how that goes. I hope that’s helpful to you, Barry. Thank you, Kathy and Janet, for your input.
And I hope that’s helpful to a lot of other people in our community as well. Take care and we’ll talk to you tomorrow.
