Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #122
All right here is a pretty cool skill that I want to tell you about today. This is a new skill that has just been released and it is actually available both in Canada and the United States.
So way to go Canada. Finally, we’re getting some respect. Here’s the deal. This is a pretty neat skill.
This is called the Stephen King Library and what it does is it takes you through a series of questions to help you determine which of Stephen King’s books you would most enjoy reading.
The skill I think is really well produced. They’re sort of an underlying music track that sort of sets the tone for Stephen King books, sort of a, you know, a gloomy, scary, dark type of tone.
The skill itself is narrated, so it’s not Alexa’s voice. It’s actually an audio book narrator, Jeremy Bob, who does an excellent job.
And basically he asks you a series of questions and you answer them and the questions like, you know, if you were going to be on a deserted island, which item would you take with you?

And it gives you three choices. So they’re interesting questions, sort of thought provoking questions.
And then when you’re done he gives you a recommendation for a Stephen King Book. So it’s pretty cool and it’s pretty smart, I think on behalf of Amazon and book publishers to be creating these skills because, you know, Amazon has kindle, Amazon sells books, and when you can start to tie the book publishing industry into the Alexa skills I think it’s a win win for both of those industries.
So some smart people behind the scenes there. Anyway it’s a really neat concept. It’s a skill that I have not seen before.
It’s the first of its kind as far as I’m concerned and it’s worthwhile trying just to try it out and see what it’s like cause it’s very, very well done as I said.

1. Open your Alexa app and click on the Menu button > Settings > Flash Briefing.
2. Click on “Add Content” and search for “Voice in Canada”.
3. Click on “Voice in Canada” and the Enable button.
