Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #624

Hello, Hello, and welcome to the flash briefing for Monday. Today, I have a new feature to tell you about. I love these flash briefings when I get to tell you about new features.

These are like, it’s like… I don’t know. It’s a gift. Here is the new feature. It has to do with routines. Routines, as you know, are one of the most valuable features that we currently have on Alexa.

That’s when you can say one command, or time something to happen at one particular time of day, and Alexa will carry out a number of different functions all at the same time.

Here’s what you can now do. You can now actually get Alexa to start any third party skill that you’d like, and this is how you do it. You go to the app, you go and click on the menu button, you click on routines, you then click on start a new routine, or add a new routine with the plus button.

And once you have chosen when you want the routine to happen, then you click on the add action button, and you will see a new button there, or you’ll see a new option, which is skills.

That’s when you can say one command, or time something to happen at one particular time of day.

Skills in Routines

You click on skills, you click on your skills, or popular skills, and now you can choose one of those, and essentially, what will happen is that particular skill will open when it is triggered by whatever is triggering your routine.

Keep in mind, that if that new skill that you’re triggering through the routine needs to have some interaction with you, you’re obviously going to have to be in the vicinity of that particular device, so that you can interact with that skill, but that’s what it does.

I would love to hear your ideas for really cool use cases for this. How are you going to incorporate this into your routines?

Hit me up on Twitter @DrTeriFisher, and tell me how you’re going to use it, because I think there’s a whole bunch of scenarios for this, but I’d love your help in deciding what those are. I will talk to you tomorrow.
