Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #274
Alright, we’ve got another new feature to tell you about with Alexa, and this has to do with routines. It seems that Amazon continues to add more and more functionality to the routines features in Alexa. And, so I think this is really cool. Here’s the latest one. The latest one is a message routine, so what you can do is you can set up a routine just like we’ve talked about in other flash briefing episodes. And, again, just briefly; a routine is something that you can schedule with Alexa. So, you can have her do something at a certain time, or you can trigger something by a certain statement that you make.
Now what you can do is in addition to those other types of things that you can have Alexa do; things like turn on smart home devices, or give you the weather, or give you the news, or that sort of thing, or tell you your calendar. You can actually leave yourself messages. So if there’s some type of notification that you want at a particular time every day, or if there is a particular notification that you want to send to yourself, if a certain command is spoken to Alexa, then you can now set that up. And the way you do that of course, is go back into your app.
I think it’s a neat way to give yourself reminders at a certain time, or perhaps for somebody to say something to Alexa that would then give you some type of notification.
You click on the top left corner icon, looks like a little hamburger, although it doesn’t exactly look like a hamburger anymore, and then you click on routines, you’re going to create a routine by using the plus symbol, and once you get into the routines, you’re going to see that when you click on add actions, you now have a messaging option. And then you can click on that, and then you enter the notification message that you want Alexa to give you at that certain time, or under those certain conditions that you set.
So, pretty cool feature. I like it. I think it’s a neat way to give yourself reminders at a certain time, or perhaps for somebody to say something to Alexa that would then give you some type of notification. I’m sure we can be creative with that. Let me know if you’ve got great ideas for this. I want to hear about it. Talk to you soon.
