Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #1029
Hey there, Teri Fisher here with your flash briefing and it’s Sunday and that means we answer a question from the community.
And this is such an important question, because there’s a really great answer to it.
In the Facebook community page, Mike Breault asks, “Are we ever going to get Alexa guard and routines with custom activities?”
Now, just before I answer that question, I do want to invite everyone, if you want to join our Facebook group, just go to VoiceinCanada.ca/Community and you can join our group.
Now, Mike, you’re going to be happy with part of this answer, Alexa guard, still not here.
So that’s the part you may not be so happy with but here’s the really great thing and this is a big deal, actually.
Is that routines with custom activities, they are now available in Canada, it is a big deal and it’s a great feature.
Let me explain what that is very briefly, so as you may know, routines allow you to either schedule something to happen at a particular time of day, or schedule a series of things to happen with one particular command.
So routines, think of it as like programming or executing a whole bunch of things based on one thing that you say.
schedule a series of things to happen with one particular command.
Well, here’s the beauty now, customized activities, what are those?
Well, basically, you now have the ability to set up a routine and it’s like as if you were saying something to Alexa.
So it could be, anything really, it could be set a timer, it could be tell you the fact of the day, it’s anything that you would say to Alexa.
You type it in when you’re setting up the routine and then it happens automatically, as part of that routine, either on a set schedule, or when you say one command, and a whole bunch of things happen, including that customized activity.
So this is a really big deal, I encourage you to play around with this and you’ll see it in the routine settings of your app.
I would love to hear if any of you have any ideas about this, how you’re using this because I think this really opens a lot of functionality.
So there you go, Mike, hope that is very helpful to you.
Again, please feel free to join our community everybody else at VoiceinCanada.ca/Community, we will welcome you there Northern voice.
Alright, have a great rest of your weekend, talk to you later.
