Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #595
Hey, it’s Teri Fisher here with your flash briefing for Sunday. And, on Sundays, I love to answer questions from the community. Today, this question comes from Ken Holmlund.
I think I said that right, from the Facebook committee. And by the way, if you’re not in the community, come join us at AlexainCanada.ca/Community.
Great question Ken asked. He says, “I’ve been using a good night routine in my main Echo for a while. I just installed a Dot in my kid’s bedroom.”
And, he’s wondering, does he have to use different words, or can a routine be Echo specific? So, we had a couple of people chime in here, and I really appreciate that.
Pete Bready said, “It has to be a different routine name or invocation if you want different results.” And Sandy said, “I know you can specify which device Alexa responds from, but I’m not sure what will happen if the routine word, or phrase is spoken to a different device.”
You have to use different words if you want to have different results.
Well, it’s a pretty simple answer actually, Ken. I did a little bit of testing here? You can’t even set up a routine with the same phrase if you want it to do different things.
It just… it won’t allow you to do that. So, you have to use different words if you want to have different results. There’s no way about that.
You cannot use the same words and get different results, because by definition, if you have the same words, you’re going to get the same results.
You can customize which Echo device is gonna respond to you from… when you speak to Alexa to activate that routine, but you can’t actually use the same words on multiple devices.
So, that’s the bottom line. I hope that’s helpful for you and to you. And, if you’ve got any other questions, anybody else, please send them my way.
I’d love to answer them. And, I will talk to you again tomorrow. Have a great rest of your weekend.
