Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #731
Hey there, how are you doing?
It’s Teri Fisher here with your flash briefing and I’ve got a little bit of interesting technology for those of you particularly that may be concerned about Alexa listening to you all the time.
There’s a company called Paranoid Inc. Interesting name?
And what they have done is they have developed a little piece of hardware, actually a couple of different pieces of hardware that keeps the smart speaker muted unless you say the wake word to the paranoid hardware that then activates the smart speaker.
Did you follow that? It’s a little complicated. So typically your smart speaker can be muted.
This device keeps it muted. You have to say a wake word to the paranoid hardware that will unmute your smart speaker and then you can talk to.
It seems like a little bit of work for me, but hey, for those of you that are interested, it is a solution to having the smart speaker on all the time. It comes in three different configurations.
A couple of different pieces of hardware that keeps the smart speaker muted.
There is a configuration for those devices that actually have a mute button because it actually keeps that button pressed and then it unmutes it when you want to talk to the smart speaker.
There’s also a different type of device that Paranoid makes and it’s basically for the smart speakers without a home button.
And what it does is it generates noise and interference to jam the smart speakers microphone.
And then you have to use paranoids wake word to stop the jamming and then use the voice control.
And then there’s a third one called the Paranoid Home Max and it isn’t a device but more of a service.
Where you actually ship your smart speaker off, it gets reconfigured and then the paranoid technology physically reroutes the speakers microphone through the paranoids device.
That’s if you want to go all out. So anyway, interesting you can look it up if you want the company, like I said, it’s Paranoid Inc and it is one solution.
Personally, I’m not that concerned about it that I need to go through the channels, but a lot of people are and so I’d be curious to hear if that is your case.
And I’d love to hear what you think of this technology if you’re using it.
Alright, have a great day, talk to you tomorrow.
