Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #938
Hey, Teri here, happy Sunday, hope you’re having a good day.
It’s Sunday and that means that we answer questions from the community.
And today’s question comes from our Facebook community, if you’re not part of it, just go to AlexainCanada.ca/Community.
This one is from Bradley Scranton and he’s got a question that is a very, very common question.
And he says he has multiple devices and he has issues with the wrong room, ie the wrong device responding, even when he’s in a different room talking to a different device.
What do you do about that, essentially? So as usual, we have lots of people chime in on this one, lots and lots of comments, and I really appreciate that.
Pete Bready was wondering just for some clarification, was it for music or anything in particular?
Bradley said, well, it is for anything in particular and so one of the ideas was, is it part of a group?
If it’s not part of our group, and this is still happening, what’s going on?
Well, Lolli May was having the issue as well, Kathy also said she’s having the issue.
Marlene gave suggestion to mute some of the other devices and just have the one device.
This technology is going to gradually get better and better.
And it goes on and on we had Michelle, Connie, Pete, Marlene, David, Sabrina, john, all of you, thank you for chiming in there.
If I can summarize all the discussion, basically, here are your options.
Number one, is to mute other devices, number two, and this one seems to be a popular way around this is to name your devices differently in each of the different rooms.
So that only one device is answering to Echo, only one device is answering to Alexa, only one device is answering to Alexa Computer et cetera, so that’s one one option.
Ultimately, this is something that Amazon is working on and that is part of having the different microphones in the array that they are present in.
For example in the Dot because they are supposed to be able to detect which device is closest to the person speaking based on the array of microphones.
Now obviously this is not 100% perfect and I have had issues with this as well, however, I have to think that this technology is going to gradually get better and better.
So for now, in my opinion, the best option is to change the wake word of particular devices so that you don’t have this issue.
Thank you again, Bradley for the question, thank you again to everyone for for being part of this discussion, I really appreciate it and I hope that is helpful.
Talk to you again tomorrow.
