Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #140

So here is a brand new skill that I just became aware of. For those of you that have a Honeywell alarm system on your home, you can now use the Honeywell total connect 2.0 skill.

And it’s pretty neat because this allows you now to take control of your alarm system by your voice.

So what can you do? Well first of all, you do need to have the Honeywell total connect App on your phone.

You need to have your Honeywell alarm system set up to work with WiFi. So a number of sort of prerequisites that you need to have in order for this to work with Alexa.

But once you’ve done that and you enable the skill and you link it to your total connect account, you can then do a number of functions with Alexa and according to their skill page on the Amazon store.

This allows you now to take control of your alarm system by your voice.

Honeywell Total Connect Skill

These are some of the functions that you can ask Alexa to perform. You can say, “Alexa, ask Honeywell, what is the status of my security system?”

You can say, “Alexa, ask Honeywell, is my security system armed?” You can say “tell Honeywell to arm”, “tell Honeywell to arm away” or “arm stay”.

And you can even tell Honeywell to run a particular scene if you have scene set up. So it’s a way for you to control your alarm system now by voice.

It does say that this does not work with disarming your alarm system. So there’s no way that you can disarm it.

And I guess that is good for security reasons. You can’t disarm it by voice, but you can arm it and get status.

So if you do have a Honeywell alarm system, you may find that this is a very useful skill for you. So hope that is helpful. Hope you enjoy using that.

And it just might mean you don’t have to get up off the couch, at a particular time when you want to go and arm your alarm system.

All right, talk to you soon.
