Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #76

So if I haven’t said it before, may be obvious, but I am very impressed with Amazon as a company.

They continue to innovate and launch things at such a rate that you typically don’t see in a company of that size and that has a lot to do with the leadership of Jeff Bezos.

Here’s why I’m mentioning this, is because Amazon is always thinking about the future and they just have announced that they’re releasing the Echo Dot kid’s edition.

Now again in the states but I think this is big news and it’s worth mentioning because it’s just a matter of time until this comes to Canada.

Why is this so important? Well, basically it’s just your regular Echo Dot.

However, it includes a colorful little case so it protects it from being knocked around and damaged by any of the kids.

They include a two year warranty where you just exchange the Dot if it gets damaged. But here’s the real deal with why they’re doing this.

If Amazon can increase the penetration of these devices into the home, particularly for young kids, imagine the type of loyalty that that is going to bring from these children as they age and as they become teenagers and adults and which device are they going to choose to use?

Likely they’re going to be choosing the Amazon devices. Now here’s the other thing that I think is really neat about the kids’ edition and that is that they are trying to listen to concerns out there in the world about the way people are actually talking to their devices.

Now if you’re like me, you know I’m sure it’s very common for us to bark commands at your Alexa device.

Alexa, stop Alexa, play this, Alexa that and when you think about it, that’s how kids are listening to people talk to these devices and kids tend to emulate behavior at home.

Now we don’t know if that is going to cause behavior changes in the way kids talk to peers at school and so on but Amazon is being very proactive and they are encouraging children to have good manners essentially and when they speak to the kids’ edition of the Dot by using the words please, and thank you, Alexa actually praises them for that and I think this is a great move on Amazon’s part.

I’m very, very much in favor of this, so Kudos to Amazon there.
