Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #113

Okay, so on this fine Monday, I want to help you with some more productivity commands, specifically those relating to your calendar.

So if you didn’t know this, you can control your calendar and hear your calendar through Alexa.

Assuming that you have paired your calendar to Alexa through the App. So the way that you do this, is you would first go to your Alexa app on your phone or the computer, click on the menu icon, the hamburger icon, click on settings, and then scroll down to where you see calendar.

At that point, you’d click on calendar and you have three options as of right now, you can connect Alexa to Google calendars, Microsoft calendars like outlook and office 365 and to your apple iCloud calendar as well.

You basically click on that button, you follow the instructions and you pair your calendar and then you are set to go as far as voice commands goal for your calendar.

I think it’s pretty powerful once you start using Alexa for these productivity.

Calendar Commands

What can you do once you’ve got that set up? Well, you can ask “Alexa, what’s on my calendar”.

You can specify a date range. “What’s on my calendar this weekend?” “What’s my next appointment?”

And you can create a new appointment, “Alexa, create a new appointment” or “Alexa, add a meeting to my calendar” for a particular day at a time.

If you don’t actually specify the day or the time when you’re creating an event in your calendar, Alexa, will ask you, will prompt you to give you the right day and the right time.

You can say “what’s on my schedule” or how many days until a particular date or how many days until the particular holiday.

So those are some of the things that you can do. I think it’s pretty powerful once you start using Alexa for these productivity, utility type things, because I think personally, that’s when the real value of the Voice First Technology comes into play, when you can just seamlessly check things on your calendar and put things on your calendar.

And I’m really enjoying discovering more and more of these types of skills that Alexa has builtin.

So hope you enjoy that and we’ve got a great podcast coming up tomorrow. Stay tuned for information about that and we’ve got another great, great guest. Talk to them.
