Just after the successful launch of its latest smart speaker ‘Echo Spot,’ Amazon has filed for a new trademark called Echo Escape in Canada. While it is not clear what exactly the trademark covers, according to a report it may be some type of escape room-related Skill. An excerpt from the trademark filing reads:

“Downloadable mobile applications software for physical adventure, puzzle, treasure-hunt, and strategy games; downloadable mobile applications software for developing, conducting, organizing, and hosting physical adventure, puzzle, treasure-hunt, and strategy games; downloadable mobile applications software for developing, conducting, organizing, and hosting physical adventure, puzzle, treasure-hunt, and strategy games featuring voice-controlled clues, riddles, and logic games.”

Amazon’s official YouTube channel features a video that shows an Amazon Echo-powered escape room experience called Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. The video was originally released back in July 2017 as a promotional campaign for the TV series with the same name, which is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on August 31st. The video shows people using Alexa to reveal clues by changing the colour of lights, watching videos on the Echo Show, and controlling various smart devices, all by voice. I think this looks really cool and I sure hope it comes to Canada soon!

According to the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), the now formalized patent was filed on March 22, 2018 in Jamaica, but the proposed use is for in Canada.

It should be noted that trademark filings do not necessarily mean a product will be commercially released. However, we’ll provide you with more info on the Echo Escape when and if Amazon reveals it.
