Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #614
Hey there, it’s Teri with your flash briefing. And, I want to talk a little bit about another announcement that was made a couple of weeks ago at the Amazon event.
One that maybe hasn’t received as much coverage, but could have very interesting implications going forward for voice technology and Amazon.
Amazon announced something known as Amazon Sidewalk. So what is Amazon Sidewalk?
Amazon Sidewalk is being described as a longer range equivalent to Bluetooth and WiFi wireless protocols.
This is very interesting because Amazon is actually starting to design the way that devices can communicate.
And, there’s a quote that came up from Jeff Bezos, and he said, “People don’t even realize yet how important that intermediate range is going to be for things like lights in your yard, controlling your lights on your sidewalk, and so on.”
They’re designing a new protocol and all of this will be linked up with Alexa.
So, they also feel that this could be used for, you know, smart garden water sensors, mailboxes, and even a pet tracking device so that you will know if your pet leaves the vicinity of your home.
So, Amazon really, I mean, they’re getting into another area here. They’re designing a new protocol, and of course, all of this will be linked up with Alexa, so that things that are outside your home, outside of the typical range of Bluetooth and WiFi, will be able to be accessible with this new technology, Amazon Sidewalk.
When this is actually coming out to the consumer, we don’t know, but this is something that was announced at their event, and it’ll be interesting to see what other things Amazon has up their sleeves that are going to incorporate Amazon Sidewalk.

1. Open your Alexa app and click on the Menu button > Settings > Flash Briefing.
2. Click on “Add Content” and search for “Voice in Canada”.
3. Click on “Voice in Canada” and the Enable button.
