Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #927
Hey there, Teri here, hope you are doing well, I have a very interesting story to share with you again today.
Now it’s not directly related with Alexa to be perfectly honest, but I think it’s another hint of what Amazon is doing and how Alexa is going to become embedded in our smart devices.
Amazon just announced that they have released a new health-tracking device called the Halo Band and it’s basically, from what I can tell, a competitive device to things like the Fitbit.
So what does the Halo do? Well, first of all, it’s interesting there is no face, there’s no screen on it, it’s a device that you wear and everything is underneath the band.
So you’ve got the light, that’s checking your pulse for example, and here’s some of the things that the device can do.
It includes 3D body scans for body fat and so on and it includes it’s a sleep tracker.
It can track your mood and it can use a voice tone detection to analyze emotion.
It can track your physical activity, but here’s the really interesting part with voice technology, it can track your mood and it can use a voice tone detection to analyze emotion.
Now, I have to believe that a next generation of this device or alternatively, a next-generation Alexa device is going to incorporate this technology.
Where the way you speak can actually be analyzed and your emotion can be told from the way you are speaking.
If you look at the demos of this Halo Band, when you speak it tells are you happy, are you feeling sad, and so on.
And my sense is that this is a way for Amazon to try this out and then somehow Alexa voice technology, makes sense, is going to be incorporated with a way to detect emotion either through this device itself or through Alexa.
I would love to hear your comments on this, hit me up on Twitter, DrTeriFisher.
How do you feel about that? About Alexa potentially being able to understand how you are emotionally feeling at any particular time, very interesting.
I’ll talk to you again tomorrow.
