Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #437
Hey there, it’s Teri Fisher here with your flash briefing. And today, I want to talk a little bit more about the rivalry between Amazon and Google. As you may know, Amazon and Google are the major players right now in the voice assistant world. Right?
Of course with Amazon we have Alexa, and of course, with Google, they have Google Assistant. And, the companies have been battling it out so much so that, up until recently, they have been preventing each other from streaming each other services.
So for example, YouTube was not able to be streamed on Amazon Fire TV’s because Google does not allow it. Similarly, Chromecast, a Google product, was not able to stream Amazon Prime content, because Amazon did not allow it.
Well, interestingly, it seems like these two companies have made up, at least in this regard, two years after this feud began, as reported on Hashtag Trending, Amazon Fire TV and Chromecast users can now once again enjoy their respective content from the other company.
They have been preventing each other from streaming each other services.
So on Amazon Fire TV, you can now experience YouTube videos. Why is that important to us? Well because, Fire TV can now be controlled by Alexa, and that means, presumably, that you will now be able to control YouTube videos, or the ability to be able to watch YouTube videos, by your voice.
Now, it does say that this update should take about a month or two to roll out, and we’ll see, I mean, things can change in that time, but the way it is right now, this is looking very promising that you’ll be able to at least control some basic functionality of being able to watch YouTube videos through your Fire TV, and of course, through the use of Alexa.
So we’ll have to keep our fingers crossed that everything works smoothly there. And, I look forward to trying it out when this rolls out and I’ll keep you informed about any changes in that regard. Alright, hope you’re having a great day, and I will talk to you again tomorrow.
