iOS users can now send voice commands to Amazon Alexa using the Alexa iOS app. Back in January, when Amazon rolled out the feature for Android users, the company said the iOS users would get a voice-activated Alexa iOS app soon. Well, that time has finally come!

It now means that you can use Alexa hands-free, using only your voice to ask the assistant to check the weather, play music, read the news and more.

Using Alexa on your phone however will be a little different than using it on an Echo device. Once you open the Alexa app in the iOS, it’ll ask you to allow various permissions, such as allowing Alexa to access your location and microphone. Once you have granted permission, pressing the Alexa icon in the bottom of the screen will activate Alexa. Your phone display will show a blue bar like the one seen in an Echo device; it’ll light up when Alexa is listening to you.

If you do not have the functionality yet, don’t worry – Amazon will be rolling it out over the next few days. Just make sure you have downloaded the latest version of the Alexa iOS app.

If you’re an Android user who’s using Alexa, you have some advantages over the iPhone users. On select Android phones, users can make Alexa the default voice assistant. You can send voice commands by simply holding down the Home button.

iPhone users still have a range of benefits while using the Alexa iOS app on their phone. Using the Alexa app, users can enable Skills, assemble Routines, and view their conversation history with Alexa. This is also where users can connect smart-home devices to their Amazon accounts.
