Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #249
Alright, so I am not actually sure what to think of this story that I’m about to share with you. This story is all about Facebook, and Facebook, partnering up, with Amazon, to create their own smart assistant hardware device. And, for those of you that aren’t aware of this, Facebook has now announced that they are releasing something called the Portal. And the Portal looks like a small little screen. It’s essentially, you can think of it like a show, an Amazon show. It doesn’t have the exact same foreign factor, but, it does have a screen, and, the big thing that Facebook is pushing with this Portal device is that it is going to be used for video conferencing, or, you know, almost like face-timing with loved ones or with whoever it is that you have set up to be contacts through Facebook. Now, with all the privacy concerns recently with regards to Facebook, I’m not sure.
I really don’t know how well this is going to be received. This is a question I’d love to actually get your feedback on. So please feel free to send me your comments on Twitter. My handle is @DrTeriFisher and I’d really love to hear like, what do you think about this? The connection here to Amazon though, is that, yes, it’s been called Portal, and yes there are commands that apparently you’re going to be able to control the device through voice commands, but, otherwise Alexa is being built into this. So, it’s going to have all of the functionality that the Amazon Alexa devices have, and, it’s very interesting. From a consumer perspective, does that give you more confidence in a device like this? Does that give you less confidence?
It’s essentially, you can think of it like a show, an Amazon show.
What does it make you think, that Facebook and Amazon are partnering together? And, how active is Amazon’s partners. Maybe it’s just that Facebook has taken that, the Alexa technology and Amazon does want that to be everywhere. We know that. And they put it into their device, maybe this is a way for them to get it out to the market, and then they’re gonna have their own AI assistant. I don’t know, but, it’s a very interesting story, and we will have to see where things go, but, for now, I’d love to hear your feedback. Like I said, come on over to Twitter, and let me know. Are you going to get a Facebook Portal, or are you interested in getting a Facebook Portal? I’m not so sure that I am at this time, but, I’d love to hear your feedback. Alright, so I’ll look forward to that. Talk to you soon.
