Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #752
Hey there, Teri Fisher here with your flash briefing for Wednesday and today I want to tell you about a report that came out from VoiceBot.ai.
And if you don’t know VoiceBot.ai, they’re actually a really fantastic publication that covers all voice technology, not just Alexa.
But what they were reporting is that there’s a new data showing that the skills launched in 2019 we’re the lowest number when you compare it to any of the year dating back to 2016.
The reason I want to highlight this with you is because they also did publish some Canadian numbers and I just want to give you a sense of what the numbers are in Canada in terms of the number of skills that are in Canada right now.
So this data is now about a year old, but this is what they’re reporting.
And they say that in January of 2019 the total count of Alexa skills in Canada was 22,873 now about halfway through the year.
So in July of 2019 the total count was 25,110.
So if I do my math right, that means that we’re looking at about an increase of give or take, but roughly 2,500 skills between January of 2019 and July of 2019.
And then they reported the number of skills that are out as of January, 2020 and that number was 25,950.
So that’s only been about an 800 or so increase in the number of skills in the last six months of 2019.
I do have a contest going on right now for creating a logo for my personal brand.
Why that is, we’re not totally sure, you know, it could be that there was a reduction in the incentives to US developers who are launching US skills and if there’s a reduction in incentives, then they may also be less lucky to be producing skills for Canada as well.
So this may have an impact on the skills that are coming to Canada.
It’s hard to say, it’s interesting and it’s data that will be interesting to continue to follow and see if there’s any uptake on this, going forward.
I still obviously think that Alexa is just gaining traction when it comes to users.
So, we’ll have to keep an eye on this interesting stuff.
Hope you’re having a great day and Oh, I just want to remind you, I do have a contest going on right now for creating a logo for my personal brand, Dr. Teri Fisher.
If you want to see the details, you can win some prizes and if you know anybody that’s a graphic designer, then please share it, you just go to AlexainCanada.ca/LogoContest.
And one more thing, there’s so much going on it’s hard to keep track of everything.
Today I’m hosting with some other colleges a Voice First Health online book launch and conference.
It’s completely free, if you are interested in voice technology and healthcare, I encourage you to join us.
You just go to VoiceFirstHealth.com/Live and you’ll be able to register there and I hope I’ll see you there.
