Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #745
Hey, it’s Dr. Teri Fisher here and let’s get right to the flash briefing for today.
Here is a really, really good piece of news for Canadians. I think this may help us to get a lot more skills in Canada than we currently have.
And this is a little bit of news that I want to let you know about.
I was made aware that Amazon has just changed their back end when it comes to developers setting up their skills.
You see previously when a developer launched a skill, they had to select which locale they wanted it to be in and most of them of course have been set up to be launched in the United States.
And what a lot of developers just actually didn’t realize is that they have to opt in to have the skill launch in Canada as well.
And I can tell you from personal experience, I’ve spoken with developers and they’re quite shocked to hear that the skill is not available in Canada.
Amazon has just changed their back end when it comes to developers setting up their skills.
Anyway, the good news is that Amazon has just made a feature available in the back end when developers are creating their skills that allows them to just select a little checkbox and that will then push the skill to all of the English speaking locales.
Now that’s good because it’s going to help the developers to get these skills into Canada more readily.
The downside to it, if there’s a downside, is if you know developer wants to customize something for a country, it’s going to be harder to do that, they won’t be able to use this feature.
Nevertheless, I think this is a good thing, it’s going to help us Canadians when you know a lot of the skills are not in Canada and now it really is as simple as a developer just choosing a checkbox and the skill will come to Canada.
So let’s keep our fingers crossed that we see more and more of the skills that we want here.
I think it’s great, a good move by Amazon and we’ll see what happens, right, and hopefully we’ll see more skills in Canada.
