Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #711
Hey there and welcome to the flash briefing for today.
Today, I want to talk to you a little bit about the recent announcement about the Alexa champions.
Now I did mention this, I think on my podcast, maybe even on the flash briefing, but I wanted to go into this in a little more detail, because it is an interesting story.
Yes, I am part of this story, but that’s not the reason I’m sharing it.
The reason I’m sharing it is because I think it’s so great what Amazon is doing here.
They are really recognizing people from across the world that are helping to grow the Alexa community.
And, VoiceBot actually did an article about the Alexa champion announcements, and I thought they did a really nice job, because they summarized it and they said that, “Amazon has recently announced 26 new additions to this program and that increases the number up to 64 in total.”
There are 13 women now in the group, that is in the current group, which brings the total women to 19. And, there’s quite a cross section of international representatives.
So, France, Spain, Italy, Mexico, India, Australia, New Zealand, and of course, US. And there are other countries there already, Israel and Canada, now that there was one Canadian in there, and I’m the second Canadian.
Now that there was one Canadian in there, and I’m the second Canadian.
And, I think it’s great that Amazon really is, as I said, reaching out, looking at all the different things that are going on across the world.
I hope as an aside that being recognized as an Alexa champion myself, I hope that you as Northern Voice community can recognize that this really comes from you.
And, I simply try to help the community to learn more and more about Alexa, and so, I really think of this as a recognition for our community.
In an interview with VoiceBot.ai, at the news of these announcements, they interviewed me, and this is what I said, and I think this sums up my feelings.
I said, “Even though Amazon Alexa is approximately two years younger in Canada, compared to our counterparts in the United States, the Canadian voice first community, that’s you, Northern Voice, is incredibly vibrant and engaged. There isn’t almost a single day that goes by when I do not get questions from our community about how they can leverage Alexa to do more, and be more efficient, or simply entertain. Developers, there is a huge opportunity in Canada for you and consumers are eagerly awaiting these skills.”
So that’s the message I’m going to keep pushing forward, because I know that a lot of developers don’t have their skills in Canada, and I know that we want them, so that’s the message I’m pushing.
Thank you again everybody that was part of this, and again, I hope that you take this recognition as meaning that what we’re doing here in Canada is important and we’re going to continue to strive forward to make Alexa the best that we can for Canadians.
Alright. Have a great day. Talk to you tomorrow.
