Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #685

Hey there and welcome to the first Saturday of 2020.

If you’ve been following along with our Saturday episodes from the past year, actually from the past two years, you know that on Saturdays I like to do Easter Egg commands.

And Easter Egg commands are those little hidden gems that you can find if you say the right thing to Alexa.

What I’ve decided to do going forward is I’m just going to change the name of this episode a little bit from Easter Egg commands to simply, Amazon Alexa commands.

Because, as you may have noticed, there are those fun little gems that I tried to highlight for you, but as well I do occasionally bring out some practical things that you can say as well, and I think that’s a valuable resource for you as I’ve heard from a number of people in the community.

So, going forward, we’re just going to call these the Amazon Alexa command days, and let’s get right to it.

If you want to hear the other ones, by the way, you just go to VoiceinCanada.ca.

Alright. So today, here are a couple of commands that you can say to Alexa.

And by the way, I use the word command loosely, because some of these are questions, some of them are more true commands in the sense of the word.

Some of these are questions, some of them are more true commands.

So, here we go. Here’s something that you can do just for fun.

This is a little bit of an Easter Egg I suppose, but this one is, “Alexa, tell me a joke about winter.” And, she can entertain you.

Here is a more useful and practical one. Me being a dog owner, I now I’m a Labradoodle owner. We’ve had our Labradoodle for about six months or so.

And one of the things that I am learning about, and you know, you veteran dog owners will know this, is that there are certain foods that a dog can or can’t eat that may not be so obvious to us.

Well, you can actually ask Alexa about this. You can simply say, “Alexa, can dogs eat watermelon?”

“Alexa, can dogs eat grapes?” That’s a big no-no. “Alexa, can dogs eat chocolate?” That’s a big no-no.

So, use that as a little bit of advice for taking care of your dog.

Obviously, you know, have a vet, you know, here’s my disclaimer.

Don’t just only, you know, listen to Alexa, but it is a good guide for you. Alright?

There’s my tip for you today, enjoy. Have a great day. Talk to you tomorrow.
