Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #525

Hey there. Well, it is Sunday and I am back from Voice Summit, boy, it was an incredible week.

I feel like I need a vacation now to recuperate from all of the tremendous stuff that I was learning and networking, and there was just a great community there.

Anyway, today on Sundays I’d like to answer questions from the community, and by the way again, if you’re not part of our community, just go to AlexainCanada.ca/Community to join our Facebook group.

The question is from Marlene Shopland in the group, and she says, “Can it be possible to have too many Alexa devices?”

And she goes on to list her devices and she says, “Sometimes one will set the timer, but another one will let me know when the time is up, and another one of them will listen when I say, “Stop” It’s just like having all five of my kids at home again.

Okay, well I can sort of relate to that. I grew up in a house of four boys, but anyway, here’s in theory what should be happening.

With the technology that Amazon is using in their microphones on the Echo devices, as long as they are on the same account so that they can communicate with each other, they should be able to detect which device is the closest to you at any particular time based on when you’re talking, naturally, you’re going to sound the loudest to the closest device. And so, that’s the device that should be speaking to you.

They should be able to detect which device is the closest to you at any particular time based on when you’re talking.

Question: Can you Have Too Many Echos?

Now, I know there are some glitches and to be honest, I can’t exactly explain that, but one thing that I would look into to see if you’re having issues with different devices answering you at different times is to see if they’re actually all on the same account.

Because if you have them on different accounts, theoretically, two devices which are on two different accounts, could be talking to you at the same time because those two devices aren’t talking to each other.

So that’s something to look into. In theory, it shouldn’t be a problem, but yes, there’s always some glitches, but that’s the way Amazon is dealing with the issue. Okay?

Well, I hope that helps. Thank you very much for the question. I really appreciate that Marlene. And also, just to shout out to everybody else who was in there with the discussion.

Pete Kelly, Steve, Kay, Dana, Julie and Kansas. Thank you very, very much. Alright, have a great rest of your weekend. Talk to you tomorrow.
