Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #24

So today I want to share with you another skill and do a quick little skill review here as well.

Now this one unfortunately only applies to people in BC, but I wanted to do this one because this is the first skill that I’m aware of that has anything like this in Canada.

So it’s a little bit of a milestone skill. This is called the Evo Car Share skill and this is a skill that allows you to reserve a car from one of these car share programs.

At this particular one is put on by the BCAA, the British Columbia Automobile Association and this is very cool.

Once you pair this skill with your Evo membership, you can now ask Alexa to find you a car.

So you can simply say, “Alexa, asked Evo to find me a car” or “Alexa, open Evo” and it will automatically behind the scenes search for the car that is closest to you and then tell you, you know, that it found you a car and the distance away.

This is a skill that allows you to reserve a car from one of these car share programs.

Evo Car Share

So it might say, okay, “Teri, I found you a car and it’s 75 meters away. Do you want me to reserve it for you?” and then you say yes or no and it’s done.

And then the way this program works, you have up to half an hour to go and claim the car before the reservation goes away.

So you can then ask Alexa, you can say, “Alexa, how much time is left on my reservation?” or you can say, “Alexa, ask Evo to cancel my booking for me”.

So, it’s pretty cool. This is one of the first skills that I’ve seen that really brings in some functionality to a third party program outside of the Echo environment that actually works in Canada.

So good job to Evo. It’s a great skill if you’re in BC and you’re a member of the Evo Car Share program, then definitely enable this one. All right, have a great day. Speak to you soon.
