Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #61

Hey there. So it’s Friday and today I want to expand a little bit more on what I talked about on Wednesday.

If you listened to the flash briefing on Wednesday, you know that I spoke a little bit about the expanded functionality and the new features that have come out with the enhanced routine options for Alexa.

And it’s been such a popular update to the whole Alexa experience that I wanted to dive into these features a little bit more in detail.

And I’m going to spend the next couple of flash briefings doing just that.

So when you go into your Alexa App and you click on the menu icon and you click on the routines and you start a new routine, remember that first of all, you can either trigger routine by having a particular phrase or triggering a routine at a particular time, regardless of which of those options you choose.

Today, I want to talk a little bit more about the first option, which is the Alexa says or Alexa says and what the benefit is of using that option and setting that up to be active with your routine.

So when you click on that button, Alexa says you get a couple of options.

You can click on good morning and in that case, this is the one that I have actually activated.

Alexa tells you a fact, something that’s really interesting about that day in history.

Alexa tells you a fact, something that’s really interesting about that day in history.

Routines - Alexa Says

And every day there’s something going on, whether it’s the beginning of the Stanley Cup playoffs, whether it has something to do with a particular holiday that’s going on.

But I like it because it spices up the morning and the message that Alexa’s giving you and it’s always a little bit different.

You can choose particular phrases. So if it’s your birthday, you can set Alexa to have a birthday message or if you want to get a compliment from Alexa, you can do that.

There’s good bye messages, good morning messages, good night messages, I’m home messages and so that’s great.

You can also tell Alexa to sing a song to you and she will sing a song to in her voice. You can tell her to tell you a joke, so you’ll start off your day or whatever time you’ve set this routine to go off.

At that point, Alexa will tell you a joke or you can also set it up Alexa to tell you a story.

A lot of these options are new. These were not available recently and so I think it’s pretty cool.

What it’s doing is creating a lot more variety in what we hear from Alexa and that is something that really enhances the user experience and really makes things more enjoyable for us because you could imagine that if Alexa saying the same thing day after day after day.

That can get a little boring quite frankly, but when you’ve got different things that you can set up and perhaps you set up different routines with different messages that Alexa’s telling you and it really creates that much more of a vibrant and enjoyable experience.

So play around with that, over the next couple of days I’m going to be highlighting other features of the routines options and we’ll dive into each one of these in a little more detail. Have a great day.
