Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #57
Okay. So I am really, really excited about this flash briefing today. And not that I’m not excited about the other ones, but here’s some big, big news and people have been asking me about this for weeks if not months and here it is.
As you know, up until now we’ve had the Echo Dot and we’ve had the Echo and the Echo Plus in Canada and just as of a few days ago, Amazon announced that the Echo Spot is now available in Canada.
So, you can pre-order it on Amazon and it is going to start being delivered on April 25th.
Now I know a lot of excitement about the Echo Spot and I’ll explain exactly what it is just a second.
But one of the things that I like to check with my website is to see which posts are being frequently viewed by you, the audience.
And one of the top posts for the last couple of months has been how to get the Echo Spot in Canada because it wasn’t available yet and now it is.
So, first of all, if you want to check out some information about it, you can check it out @AlexainCanada.ca/Spot.
But what is the deal? What is the spot? So the spot is an Echo device, of course it has Alexa in it.
You can now see visual queues.
It can do everything that Alexa can do in any other device. But this one has a small little screen and a camera, which now means for the first time that Canadians, we can start to get skills for Alexa that have some video component to it.
So what would that be? Well, if you have a calendar and you’re asking Alexa for your calendar or you’re asking Alexa about a timer or you’re asking Alexa about the weather.
You can now see visual queues, basically a screen that will show you the weather, show your calendar, et cetera.
If you’re listening to music it can show you album arch and more and more, here’s the really exciting part.
More and more skills are going to be multi-modal, meaning they’re going to have audio components as we have with Alexa, but they’re going to have video components.
So I’ll just give you an example, as you may know, Amazon recently bought ring the doorbell, and I ensure it’s just a matter of time now before ring is entirely integrated with Alexa so that when somebody rings your doorbell, you can say, to Alexa, show me my doorbell, or something like that and you’ll be able to look on devices like the Spot and you’ll be able to see your doorbell right there.
So this is very, very exciting. It’s big news. It’s available for pre-order now. It’s going to start shipping on April 25th and check it out @AlexainCanada.ca/Spot for all the details and let me know what you’re thinking.
I’d love to hear your comments on the show notes page there. Talk to you again tomorrow.
