Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #46

Hey there, Teri here and today on the flash briefing, I want to tell you about a feature that you may or may not know about that you can use with Alexa and that feature is the do not disturb feature.

As I alluded to probably about a week or two ago when I did a flash briefing about the different colors that Alexa can show you.

If you ever see a purple, sort of a purple flash after you’ve given a command or Alexa has said something back to you, that means that the do not disturb feature is enabled and first of all, the simplest way to enable this is to simply give that command.

Just say “Alexa, enabled do not disturb” and what that means, is that from that point forward, until that do not disturb feature is turned off, Alexa will not disturb you with regards to phone calls that may be coming in, messages that you may be receiving or drop-ins.

Alexa will not disturb you with regards to calls, messaging, or drop ins.

Do Not Disturb

So if somebody wants to drop in on you, it’s the way that you can prevent that for that particular length of time.

And what you’ll notice is that whenever you do give Alexa a command with this feature turned on, after she is finished speaking, the color on the device will flash purple and that’s just a reminder that the do not disturb feature is still turned on.

When you are ready to disable that, you simply say “Alexa, turn off do not disturb” or “disabled, do not disturb”, and then it’s off.

So when would you use this? It might be a time when you don’t want to have somebody calling you or dropping in on you, maybe you’re watching a movie or you’re doing something that requires a lot of concentration.

Every situation is of course different, but this is different than the mute function. The mute function of course means that Alexa will not hear your request and obviously will not respond.

But this is different, this is do not disturb and Alexa will not disturb you with regards to calls, messaging, or drop ins and there you go.

So that’s another feature that gives you a little bit more control over Alexa. Talk to you again tomorrow.
