Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #445
Alright. If you are like any Canadian, you probably have spent your fair amount of time in IKEA. Well, it’s Teri here with your flash briefing, and today I want to tell you about a product that I just became aware of, and that is the IKEA Tradfri.
I’m sure I’m not pronouncing that right because I don’t speak Swedish, but it’s spelled Tradfri, and it’s a wireless control outlet, so it’s a socket.
You plug it into your household socket, and then you plug a lamp into this socket, and that way you can turn the lamp or any other electrical device for that matter, into a smart device when you plug it into this socket.
Now this sells for $14.99 at IKEA and for another $5 more, for $19.99 you get the same product, but you also get a little wireless switch.
Now, here’s how this relates to Alexa, is that now, and there has been an app for this, the Tradfri app, you can now control these smart devices with the app, but also, the app allows you to connect these devices to Alexa.
You now have another option of being able to control devices that are plugged into this smart outlet.
So you now have another option of being able to control devices that are plugged into this smart outlet. And you can do that through your voice, through Alexa. So pretty cool. It’s a pretty inexpensive socket for 15 bucks.
Plus, as I said, for $5 more, you can get the optional switch, but regardless, you can now control an IKEA smart switch with your voice. Just shows, I mean, there’s another company getting into this smart device market and it’s just everywhere now.

1. Open your Alexa app and click on the Menu button > Settings > Flash Briefing.
2. Click on “Add Content” and search for “Voice in Canada”.
3. Click on “Voice in Canada” and the Enable button.
