Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #332

Hey there. Happy Wednesday. Hope you are having a great day. As you know, I am at the Alexa Conference this week and I’m having a fantastic time. Today I want to tell you about some new stats that I just found out about, and these have to do with smart speaker use in Canada. So here we go. Some very Canadian content for the Voice in Canada flash briefing.

This is put out by E-Marketer. And, they looked at, basically, Canadian usage of smart speakers. And, it’s very, very interesting. In 2017, there were 1.3 million Canadians who used a smart speaker at least once per month, which is about 3.7% of the population.

In 2018, that jumped to 3.9 million people or 10.5%. And in 2019, so far, we have an estimation of 5.8 million people that are using smart speakers at least once per month, and that’s a 15.7% of the Canadian population.

By 2020, it is expected that there’ll be 6.7 million people in Canada using smart speaker or 17.9%. So it just continues to climb and climb. It’s interesting because there are still some people that feel that smart speakers are a fad.

Well, I for one, and I’m sure if you’re listening to this, you may have your own opinions on this, but I can tell you this is not a fad. This is the future of computing. And, it’s very fascinating to me to see that Canadians truly are adopting this quite rapidly.

Now, a little update on the Alexa Conference. As you know, today I am giving a live talk. This is gonna be about voice and the applications for voice in the home in terms of healthcare specifically, if you want to tune in, you can tune in at VoiceFirstHealth.com/Live.

In 2019, we have an estimation of 5.8 million people that are using smart speakers at least once per month, and that’s a 15.7% of the Canadian population.

Smart Speaker Use in Canada

That talk is scheduled for approximately 10:50 AM Eastern Standard Time, assuming we stay on time at the conference, that’s the time it should be coming on, but when you go to the website and you look on the website, you will see that when I start broadcasting live, a player will show up and so if you just hang out on that page, around that time, you will see it when it goes live.

And a reminder that tomorrow I will be giving a workshop. The title of the workshop is, “The Prime Real Estate of Voice; How to create a Flash Briefing” That is scheduled to be broadcast at 10:30 AM Eastern Standard Time, and again, we should be on time with that one and I hope that you will have a listen with that one. And that one is at AlexainCanada.ca/Live.

And finally, as I promised, I want to give another shout out to another person that left a review for me. There’s actually two of them that came out very recently. They’re both anonymous, so I don’t know who to thank. They just say Amazon customer, but one of them says, “Awesome. Five stars. Added to my daily flash briefing. Daily interesting updates. I enjoy listening”

So fantastic. Thank you to whoever you are. And then the final one is, “Five stars. Nice. And why not in French. I love it every day. Would be nice to have it also in French. And, boy, you know, you raise a really good point, and I wish I could do it in French.

My French is just not that good. So, if anybody has any ideas of how we can get this into French, or you know, cater to those French-speaking people then I’d love to hear about it. So please contact me. Anyway. Have a great day. Tune into these live broadcasts and I’ll talk to you again tomorrow.
