Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #207

Hey, hey. So, today I want to answer another community member’s question. As you know, I have been trying to do more and more of that. And today I’m going to answer a question that I got through the contact page on the blog, on the website. And this comes from Darko, and Darko has a really interesting question, a very common question.

You see, he is interested in using some of the US skills but he’s here in Canada, but the good thing, in terms of his situation, is that he does have both a US Amazon account and a Canadian Amazon account. So, he’s wondering, you know, what to do to take advantage of both. Well, he realized that there are differences in the content, the skills, and we all know that.

Just to real quickly recap, if you don’t know this. Skills are developed by individual developers and they choose where their skills go, and sometimes, very often unfortunately for us Canadians, they choose to put them in the United States and they don’t put them directly into Canadian skill store.

So, we’re left with either having to use only what’s available on the Canadian skill store, or sort of fudging our address in the setup to say that we’re American, and then we can use the American skills. And he’s wondering how you can do both easily. Well, Darko, there’s not a great answer to this.

We’re left with either having to use only what’s available on the Canadian skill store, or sort of fudging our address in the setup to say that we’re American, and then we can use the American skills.

Question: How to take Advantage of US Skills?

Really, the bottom line, is that if you want to be able to use both, you’re going to have to switch back and forth in your account or you can do what you suggested in your question to me and that is you could get a separate Echo device and have that one set up in your US Amazon account, and then you essentially have an Echo device in your home on the Canadian account and you have an Echo device on your home in the US account.

And I think that’s probably the simplest way to do it because then you do have access to both. But of course, it doesn’t mean that you do need to buy an additional Echo device to be able to do that or to be able to add any other jurisdiction that you want. So there’s the answer, I’m not sure if that’s the answer you were looking for, but that’s the bottom line.

So I think if you do a bit extra device and you want the easiest way to do it, then that’s the way to do it. Also, if you’re looking at how to convert from the Canadian to US account or US account to Canadian account, please check out my answers at AlexainCanada.ca/FAQ where I have some FAQs.

And that is one of the ones that I include specifically, is how to change the account setting, whether you’re in Canada or the United States. Hope that’s helpful and I will talk to you again tomorrow. Have a great day everybody.
