Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #290
Hey there, it’s Teri here with your flash briefing for December 5th and I’ve got some news for you. Some quite interesting news. Some of it is good and some of it is not quite as good, but I’ll get to that. First, the interesting news is that Apple has recently announced, and Amazon has announced that they have partnered to allow Apple to bring the Apple Music service to Alexa through the Apple Music skill.
This is really interesting from a strategic perspective between these two companies because Apple’s got Siri, we know that. Amazon has Alexa, we know that. And, these are two of the bigger tech companies in the world. And, there has been, obviously, a battle for supremacy as far as the smart speakers go.
Siri has been lagging behind, and it’s very interesting now that Apple is now using the Alexa platform to allow consumers to access their Apple Music and it’s also interesting from the Amazon side that Amazon is partnering with Apple.
So, what intrigues me very much is how this is going to play out over the next year or two in terms of other potential partnerships between these two. Is there going to be some sort of news that comes out about these voice assistants being available on the other person’s system similar to what Microsoft and Amazon have done? I don’t know, but I find that quite interesting.
It’s very interesting now that Apple is now using the Alexa platform to allow consumers to access their Apple Music and it’s also interesting from the Amazon side that Amazon is partnering with Apple.
So, that’s the news, and that’s the good part. The good part is that I think this is great, this partnership, it allows people to have access to Apple Music. Here’s the not so good part as usual. We know Canadians. This is not going to be available to Canadians when it’s released and it’s being released imminently.
I can only assume that after some time it will be released in Canada, but right now it’s only in the states. But I thought this is an interesting story. A very newsworthy story because it may hint to what is to come between Apple and Amazon. So, there you go.
For what it’s worth, if your system is set up for the United States, you can access this. If not, we’re going to keep our fingers crossed that it comes sometime soon. Alright. Enjoy your day. Talk to you tomorrow.
