Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #1177
Hey, hey Teri here with your flash briefing, happy Monday, hope you are doing well.
Periodically, when we get the first quarter results from Amazon, I like to share these with you to get a sense of how the company is doing.
And certainly Echo devices and sales and Amazon Alexa has a ton to do with how Amazon is doing. So their first quarter results for 2021 just came out, and I’ll just give you a few of the highlights.
If you want to dig into this more, simply just search Amazon first quarter results 2021 you’ll see a whole bunch more details way too long that I could go into in this flash briefing, but I’ll just give you a couple of highlights.
So here we go, number one, their cash flow increased 69% for the trailing 12 months now to 67.2 billion compared to 39.7 billion for the trailing 12 months ending March 31 2020.
Let’s talk about their net sales, their net sales increased 44% to $108.5 billion in the first quarter, compared with 75.5 billion in the first quarter a year ago.
If you want to dig into this more, simply just search Amazon first quarter results 2021
Excluding the 2.1 billion favorable impact from the year over year changes in foreign exchange rates, the net sales increased 41% compared to the first quarter of 2020.
Pretty impressive stuff and no doubt the pandemic had a lot to do with that and people ordering things through Amazon had such a rapid rate.
I think the last thing I’ll just leave you with here is that net income increased to 8.1 billion in the first quarter, or $15.79 per diluted share and that was compared with a net income of 2.5 billion or $5.01 per diluted share in the first quarter of 2020.
So as you can see, this was a huge growth year for Amazon and again, I’m sure that the pandemic had a lot to do with that with people ordering things through Amazon.
I know that in my house, we order a ton more things through Amazon and we also tried doing some voice ordering of products as well through our Echo devices, so there you go.
Those are the top level highlights Amazon sounds like they’re in good shape, at least they worked for the last three months, we’ll see how the next three months go.
Hope you’re doing well, hope you’re having a wonderful day and as always, I’ll talk to you again tomorrow.
