Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #1176

Hey, hey, happy Mother’s Day, everyone, it’s Sunday, it’s Teri Fisher here.

And if you missed the episode of the flash briefing yesterday, I talked about some fun commands you can save for Mother’s Day, so you can always go back to the website VoiceinCanada.ca, and check those out.

Now, today on Sunday, I like to answer questions from the community and last week, we talked about a question that was asked by Sandy, about how she can create a routine to have the screen silently on her Echo Show come back on again, so that she can see what time it is when she wakes up but it doesn’t actually wake up people by making any audible noise.

And in that flash briefing, I asked all of you, the community, to see if you had any ideas for her because it’s a tricky, tricky use case and I am pleased to report that Pete Bready did a fantastic job of suggesting a routine for her.

And this is what he said, he said, try a scheduled routine with a set volume to zero action, followed by a play music action with a duration of five seconds, and then a customized goal home action.

So essentially, what you’re doing is you’re telling the device to have no volume, but play a song and that will turn the screen on.

what you’re doing is you’re telling the device to have no volume, but play a song and that will turn the screen on.

How to Turn on The Screen with a Routine

And Sandy wrote back and said, I use your idea to come up with a solution, it works but yes, I agree Sandy, like you shouldn’t have to do that, but she says, in my screen on routine, she added a soundless command to set the volume to zero, just before the customize to go home command.

And then of course, this means that she has to then reset the regular volume at the beginning of her Good morning routine, nevertheless, it is a solution to the problem.

So thanks and that’s just the power of the community, so thank you, Pete and again, thanks, Sandy for the question and thank everybody for being part of the discussion, really appreciate that, you can always join our community at VoiceinCanada.ca/Community.

And finally, I haven’t asked about this in a long time, but if you are enjoying the flash briefing, and you’d like to leave a review, that would mean the world to me, you just go to VoiceinCanada.ca and you will see a button there on the flash briefing page where you can submit a review.

So thanks very much for doing that and have a wonderful, wonderful Mother’s Day, I will talk to you again tomorrow.
