Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #1067

Hey, there it is Wednesday and here is your flash briefing for today and I’ve got some interesting news when it comes to Amazon.

As you may know, Alexa has certain wake words, right?

We can’t have custom wake words, you have to choose between Echo Alexa, Computer, Amazon, I think those are all them may be missing one there but the point is, those are not custom wake words.

Well get this, it was just announced that Amazon is now allowing companies to build their own custom assistance, but leveraging the Alexa voice service.

So you may be familiar with the fact that some companies are producing their own independent proprietary voice assistance.

So not built on the Alexa or, for example, the Google platform, but Amazon is now making it easier for companies to do that, but leverage the Alexa platform.

And the interesting thing about this is that part of this feature set is that you can have your own unique custom wake word.

you can have your own unique custom wake word.

Custom Voice Assistants on Alexa

And the first company to do this is Fiat Chrysler, and they have built their own intelligent assistant, it has a unique voice, it has unique skills, it has a unique wake word, but it’s all built on Alexa.

And the interesting thing about this as well, is that if the custom voice experience that this company builds does not have an answer to a particular question that a person asks, then it can default to the normal Alexa voice service.

So a company can actually have a custom voice assistant, on top of Amazon’s already existing Alexa service.

Now there are some questions about what happens then with the data?

If a company is building this on top of Alexa, does the company get the data or does Amazon get the data?

Those are some questions that probably need to be explored but very interesting development in the voice technology space.

Hope you’re having a wonderful day and we’ll talk again tomorrow.
