Voice In Canada Flash Briefing #571

Alright. So here is an interesting little bit of news for you. I was searching the web, and I came across an article that says that parents in Britain calling their baby girls Alexa dropped by more than half last year.

And just to give you the numbers here, it says that Alexa was the 380th most popular name for girls in England and Wales last year, with 118 newborns given the name.

A sharp fall from 2017 when they were 301 Alexa’s. So, this got me wondering, “What’s it like in Canada?” So I did a quick search, and I found some stats, at least for British Columbia, and I can tell you, that if we go back to 2015, there were 42 baby girls named Alexa.

Alexa was the 380th most popular name for girls in England and Wales.

Babies Named Alexa are Fewer in Number

And, then it dropped off, and over the last couple of years, there has been a downward trend, to the point that in 2018 there were only 21.

So, kind of half of what we saw a couple of years ago. Interesting. I wonder if this does happen to something to do with, obviously, Amazon Alexa.

So, I want to know what you think. Does this affect whether or not you would name a child Alexa? I’d love to hear your feedback on that.

So send me a message, whether it’s on Twitter, or Instagram, or wherever. On Twitter is where I am most of the time, and you can contact me there.

My Twitter handle, which is at @DrTeriFisher. Alright. Talk to you again tomorrow.
