Welcome Oita Coleman
Oita Coleman is a Senior Advisor for the Open Voice Network. Prior to that, Oita was the Vice President of Software Quality at the SAS Institute.
How Did Oita First Get Introduced to Voice Technology?
At SAS, Oita had a very broad portfolio of products including data management, customer intelligence, analytics, and artificial intelligence. SAS worked with products related to chatbots and voice. In Oita’s role, they were responsible for testing products across the spectrum that the company delivered.
Oita ended up at the Open Voice Network because of a LinkedIn connection from Jon Stine, who is the Executive Director at the Open Voice Network.
What Are Some Key Initiatives that the Open Voice Network is Working On?
Oita shared that she is really impressed with the talent and breadth of the Open Voice Network.
Oita mentioned that they are working on privacy and security guidelines around inclusivity and consent, use of data, protecting the user and the enterprise.
How the Open Voice Network is Approaching the Aspect of Big Companies Collecting Lots of Data?
Oita shared that when you are serving as the Quality VP at a large software company, you have to strike a balance between protecting users’ privacy and large companies collecting data. The question she presented is how do we strike a balance between privacy, security, and ethical use guidelines that will protect both the consumer and the enterprise?
How that balance comes about is really the value of the organization and the people that are involved, whether they are independent developers, strategists, or in the academic sector.
How Oita Got the Nickname “The Quod Vox?”
In an Open Voice Network meeting where they were discussing the concept of giving consent and revoking consent, someone gave a compliment to Oita in the chat on how much sense she makes. Oita mentioned the question of the 5 why’s, with every answer, start with the question of why it allows you to drill down to the root cause.
Balance is Key
Oita also mentioned that the mantra that Jon Stine shares is that it is important to strike the right balance between different rights and values you want to promote.
