Jon Stine, Executive Director for the Open Voice Network Shares His Vision for the Future of Voice (Episode 149)
Welcome Jon Stine
In this episode, Teri welcomes Jon Stine. Jon is the Executive Director for the Open Voice Network. Jon has 15 years of experience in the retail apparel industry and 20 years of experience in the technology industry working at organizations such as Intel Corporation, and Cisco Systems.
About Open Voice Network
The Open Voice Network is a nonprofit that is funded by the Linex Foundation. The Open Voice Network is guided by trust, choice, inclusivity, and openness.
Can the Open Voice Network Make Voice Worthy of User Trust?
Jon posed the question of what the world of voice will look like in 3-5 years? It is going to be about the individuals that are already in the voice industry as well as those that aren’t even thinking about it currently. This involves the voice platforms, the innovators, the developers, designers, and strategists.
How Jon’s Core Team Brings Value to His Organization
Jon has around 120 volunteers that are evaluating what type of standards should be developed. Jon spoke of the vision that Mike McNamara, Chief Information and Digital Officer had regarding what the industry would need and brought up important issues pertaining to privacy, commercial privacy, and the issue of a registry. Jon believes that Mike is a top leader in retail and digital thinking. Jon also spoke of Ali who sees the future, and challenges us and brings everyone in with a very generous approach.
Jon also mentioned Mirko, Head of Digitalization and Innovation for Schwartz Group who evaluated how we will listen to our customers. Jon also said there are dozens of other amazing team members that he wishes he could mention that are all very generous visionaries.
What is the Future Vision of Open Voice Network?
The essence of trust can consist of standards or guidelines; however, the key question is not if the rules exist, but will people abide by the rules. Jon mentioned it is important to learn from all the platforms and understand what you must respect when it comes to GDPR, etc. Furthermore, it is critical to determine if your brand is protected worldwide.
Jon believes that trust is a very multi-faceted effort, and they are trying to approach it from different perspectives.
Who Would Jon Want to Collaborate With?
Jon mentioned that there are still certain platforms that they haven’t found an opportunity to have a discussion with.
Jon is looking for the best brains in the voice industry because they are trying to address questions of platform interoperability, and the essence of voice beyond the component. Jon believes that we need to enable choice and trustworthiness to accelerate the research.
